  • Submitted by: Maurice Golden, West Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 28 November 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-14973

That the Parliament welcomes the news that six Neilston soldiers who died during the First World War will be remembered through a series of streets being named in their honour; understands that the streets will be part of the Kirktonfield estate in Neilston and are Munley Way, named after brothers William, Peter and Thomas Munley, who died within months of each other in 1916, Gebbie Way, named after Private Alexander Gebbie, who was killed in 1916, Watt Place, named after Private Basil Wallace Watt, who was killed in 1918, and Martin Court named after Piper Sergeant Alexander "Sandy" Martin, who was killed in 1916; thanks the Neilston War Memorial Association and the developers, Taylor Wimpey, for organising the tribute; recognises the bravery, courage and sacrifice of these heroic local men, and welcomes that their memory will live on.
