Abertay University Students Through to Final of Microsoft Competition

That the Parliament congratulates a team of Abertay University students who are through to the final of Microsoft Cup in Seattle; understands that the team, Blacklight Games, won the national heat in London to secure its place in the grand final in July 2018; acknowledges that the Microsoft Cup seeks game designs that can potentially change the world, with a $100,000 prize for the winning team; notes that the team is made of up third-year students, Matthew McAuley, Marc Ubach Martinez, Emily Peterson, Calvin Angove, Alice Firth, Craig Metcalfe, Liam French and Hamish Blackwood; recognises that, as part of their coursework, the team created Firepoint, a first-person game aimed at bringing a new level of realism in firefighting training; understands that the team hopes that the simulator will also one day be used at fire station open days or recruitment events; commends all members of the team on their hard work, and wishes them every success in the final.
