Usdaw Campaign for Lidl Workers

  • Submitted by: Neil Findlay, Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 16 March 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-11087

That the Parliament supports the campaign by Usdaw to give Lidl staff a stronger voice in the workplace; understands that the campaign aims to gather the testimonies of Lidl staff and to raise awareness of the benefits of trade union involvement; notes that the campaign recently saw Usdaw representatives visit the Livingston Lidl distribution centre during the week of 12 March 2018; understands that Lidl staff have reported concerns about their working conditions, such as poor health and safety, receiving little notice of shift changes and unpaid overtime; urges the Lidl management team to meet with Usdaw to negotiate a formal trade union recognition agreement that is in the interest of good industrial relations, giving workers an independent voice, and understands that Usdaw has been conducting this campaign in Lidl and Aldi stores and distribution centres across the country.
