That the Parliament commends Plan International UK on its report, Break The Barriers: Girls’ Experience of Menstruation in the UK, and publishing its Menstrual Manifesto; notes that the report suggests that, rather than simply being a monthly biological event, menstruation is an educational and socio-economic issue experienced by girls and women worldwide, with the experience of those in the UK not being dramatically different to that experienced globally; understands that it provides further evidence of period poverty being persistent in UK society, with many girls and women stating they have been unable to afford or have struggled to afford sanitary products, have had to borrow products from a friend because of affordability and have had to improvise to manage their period, and urges the Scottish Government to support Plan International UK's six-point manifesto, which calls for the conversation to be changed to remove the stigma of periods, real world education being provided for all, ending period poverty, companies to act as part of the solution and investment in research.
