Abdullah Razzouk's Syrian Bakery Set to Expand

  • Submitted by: Ben Macpherson, Edinburgh Northern and Leith, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 26 September 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07882

That the Parliament congratulates Abdullah Razzouk on the success of his Leith-based bakery, Taza Bake, which specialises in the Mediterranean bread, khobez; notes that Abdullah, who left Syria in 2009, began production after settling in Scotland in 2015, and sells around 500 packets each week using a 5,000-year-old recipe, which uses no additives or chemicals; understands that this has become hugely popular with restaurants, wholesalers and shops across the country and that the business, which is the first of its kind in the country, has also seen an increase in orders from other Syrian nationals in Scotland; appreciates that, following a surge in demand for such healthier bread, it is set to expand and will open a second premises next door, which will also offer the traditional Syrian pie, manakish; acknowledges that Abdullah has worked with Business Gateway Edinburgh to plan how best to kick-start the bakery, and wishes him, and Taza Bake, all the best.
