Maryhill Burgh Halls To Open Community Museum

  • Submitted by: Bob Doris, Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 27 July 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-06881

That the Parliament recognises the great work of the Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust in promoting the history and heritage of the community and welcomes its recent call for community involvement in developing a new heritage project and museum based within the halls; commends its partnership working and community-centred approach in reaching out to the area's charities, community groups, history groups, clubs and societies to contribute displays and stories; believes that such a project will contribute to safeguarding and celebrating Maryhill’s rich history and heritage; applauds the trust's approach in making community history and heritage accessible to all, acknowledges that the project will also provide a place for volunteers, or "ambassadors", to engage in exciting ideas, train in new skills and build confidence; wishes the emerging Maryhill museum and associated community initiatives every success, and encourages the community to take advantage of this opportunity, which will see participation from both younger and older generations, alongside those new to Maryhill and longstanding residents.
