25th Anniversary of Ravenscraig Steel Plant Closure

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 30 June 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-06557

That the Parliament recognises the 25th anniversary of the closure of the Ravenscraig steel plant; understands that the decision by the UK Government to close the plant resulted in more than 700 job losses at the plant and hundreds more at companies that relied on the plant for business; believes in the importance of recognising and protecting Scotland’s industrial heritage; commends the Scottish Government, which recently oversaw the rescue of Dalzell Steel Mill by Liberty Steel, protecting jobs and heavy industry in Motherwell and Wishaw, and wishes the former Ravenscraig workers well as they meet at Club 100 in Motherwell to mark the anniversary of the closure.
