  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 22 June 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-06310

That the Parliament congratulates Ellen Phillips, who is the longest serving volunteer at Motherwell and Wishaw Citizens’ Advice Bureau (CAB), on being awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to the people of Lanarkshire; notes that, although Ellen has had rheumatoid arthritis from a young age, which has prevented her from being able to work, she has been volunteering at the CAB since 1989 and has served in a number of roles, including as a volunteer advice worker, a lead tutor, an on-the-job trainer and as a member of its board; recognises that, during her 28 years of service, Ellen has gifted 25,000 hours to the CAB and mentored and trained 780 volunteers, who in turn have donated 500,000 hours to the community, and wishes Ellen all the best for the future.
