The Manda Centre

  • Submitted by: Margaret Mitchell, Central Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 21 March 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-04787

That the Parliament welcomes the work of the Manda Centre, which supports families and friends affected by trauma, loss and personal crisis; notes that the centre was founded by Kate and Joe Duffy who themselves have experienced suffering and distress following the murder of their daughter, Amanda, almost 25 years ago; understands that the centre provides support through one-to-one and group counselling, alternative therapies to help alleviate stress, person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, practical advice on the legal processes involved with murder, culpable homicide, suicide and road traffic deaths and updates to changes in legislation and the criminal justice process; considers that these different support mechanisms are invaluable for helping people living through the aftermath of a crisis, and believes that by treating everyone with dignity, respect and confidentiality, the Manda Centre is providing an indispensable service to those living in Hamilton and Central Scotland.
