Clydesdale Bank Closures in West Scotland

  • Submitted by: Ross Greer, West Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 19 January 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-03534

That the Parliament expresses concern at the proposed closure of 40 branches of the Clydesdale Bank across Scotland; notes that five of these closures, in Bearsden, Giffnock, Johnstone, Renfrew and Saltcoats, are in the West Scotland parliamentary region; expresses solidarity for all of the workers whose jobs are threatened or effected by the closures or any resulting restructure; is grateful for the work of Unite the Union in supporting its members at this time; expresses concern that many communities are losing a vital facility, causing particular difficulties for less mobile residents, and asks the Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banking Group to reverse these closures where possible and to work with the union to minimise the impact upon staff.
