That the Parliament welcomes the announcement by North Lanarkshire Council, following a recent meeting of its Policy and Resources Committee, to save Newarthill Library; understands that this decision follows immense pressure from people, not just in the community, but across the world who have sent their messages of support to keep the library open; notes that this issue has been raised in a previous parliamentary motion, S5M-02708 (Save Newarthill Library), and was to be scheduled for debate in the Parliament; believes that the decision by North Lanarkshire Council is testament to the incredible campaigning efforts of everyone in the community but, in particular, the efforts of the Save Newarthill Library Committee consisting of Angie Walker, Cat Dormer, Suzanne Ross, Claire Crothers, Amanda Jane Govan, Stacey Hoey, Mary Brown, Tommy Brannigan and their families, as well as support from individuals and groups, including Damian Barr, Dom Milligan, John Milligan, Christopher Hawtree, John Young, Greg Campbell, David Solomons, Dom Kingston, Janey Godley, Kathleen Ruddy, the Scottish Pink Floyd, the Newarthill Kids, Sarah Smith, Floyd Codlin, Mark Stephens QC, Baroness Helena Kennedy, Daniel Donaldson, Sean Folan and support from the local press, including the Motherwell Times and Wishaw Press; considers that the importance of libraries and community facilities at the heart of communities cannot be underplayed in terms of tackling the attainment gap and delivering the best possible education for all Scotland's young people; believes that the Save Newarthill Library campaign could set an example to every community in terms of the power that people have in making a difference and taking action on the issues that they are passionate about; further hopes that the decision reflects a new attitude towards the importance of libraries and community facilities at the heart of communities across North Lanarkshire; wishes all of the campaigners a well-earned rest after their activities, and wishes the Newarthill Library many more happy years as a key facility in the heart of a close-knit community.
