  • Submitted by: Ben Macpherson, Edinburgh Northern and Leith, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 31 October 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-02205

That the Parliament welcomes that the Hidden Door Festival 2017 will be held at Leith Theatre, previously known as Citadel Theatre; recognises that Hidden Door is in discussion with the Leith Theatre Trust, which is the organisation that has recently been granted a lease for the building and is re-establishing the venue as a functioning arts space for the city; welcomes the festival’s ambitious plans to bring the old theatre back to life next year, filling its beautiful spaces with live music, visual art, theatre, film and spoken word for the duration of the festival, which will run from 26 May to 4 June 2017; recognises that the building has previously been a theatre, cinema and music venue; encourages artists to submit proposals for visual art, theatre, poetry and spoken word to exhibit and perform in this beautiful venue in culturally-vibrant Leith, and looks forward to the space coming to life in a new way in summer 2017.
