That the Parliament commends everyone involved in JDRF’s One Walk to raise awareness and funding for type 1 diabetes research, which was held on 11 September 2016 at Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell; notes that this was the first One Walk Central Scotland to be held at Strathclyde Country Park; understands that more than 29,000 people in Scotland have type 1 diabetes; recognises that JDRF is a type 1 diabetes charity run by people with the condition and aimed at improving the lives of those affected until a cure is found; acknowledges that type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition, which is not currently preventable; further notes that it is not caused by being overweight or eating a poor diet but is caused by a mix of genetic and environmental factors; understands that, in the last three years, One Walk Central Scotland has raised over £70,000 for type 1 diabetes research, and looks forward to future events to bring recognition and support for this important issue.
