  • Motion reference: S4M-03385

That the Parliament welcomes National Bike Week and the events being held across Scotland between 16 and 24 June 2012 to encourage more people to cycle; welcomes news that use of the National Cycle Network in Scotland rose by 19% in 2011 and that use of the network across the UK resulted in health benefits worth an estimated £442 million; notes that a petition by Pedal on Parliament has collected over 3,600 signatures; welcomes plans to refresh the Cycle Action Plan for Scotland, and calls on the Scottish Government and local authorities to match growing enthusiasm for cycling and recognition of the public benefits with a step-change in funding and new forms of collaboration between central and local government to improve cycle infrastructure.
