That the Parliament welcomes the campaign launched by nine church congregations to officially recognise Corstorphine as a fair trade community; notes the meeting held at Corstorphine Old Parish Church on 18 September 2011 where young people staged a shopping bags parade with goods from local shops that stock fair trade items and where participants pledged to support more fair trade buying; commends the efforts of the churches and the local community to raise awareness about fair trade and encourage local businesses to stock more fair trade products; notes the City of Edinburgh Council’s endeavours to promote its Fairtrade City status that was awarded in 2004 by organising fair trade competitions including the Lord Provost Fair Trade Awards and school competitions, and wishes Corstorphine’s campaign every success in becoming an officially recognised fair trade community.
