  • Submitted by: Fulton MacGregor, Coatbridge and Chryston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 29 October 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-19465

That the Parliament congratulates Màiri Callan, from Annathill, Coatbridge, on her outstanding achievements at the Royal National Mòd; notes that at the 2025 edition of the Royal National Mòd, held in Lochaber, she was awarded the Ladies’ Traditional Gold Medal, which is awarded in memory of Mary Lamont and is one of the most highly respected prizes in traditional Gaelic singing; further notes that this builds on her earlier success at the Royal National Mòd in Inverness in 2021, where she won the Ladies’ An Comunn Gàidhealach Gold Medal, which, it believes, is regarded as one of the highest honours in the world of Gaelic song; recognises that both awards represent the pinnacle of achievement at the Mòd and reflect exceptional musical ability, commitment, and passion for the Gaelic language and its cultural heritage; acknowledges the long-standing role of An Comunn Gàidhealach and the Royal National Mòd in promoting and celebrating Gaelic arts, culture and identity across Scotland; celebrates Màiri’s dedication to the continuation and promotion of Gaelic music and culture, both locally and nationally, and wishes her continued success in her musical career and in her future contributions to Scotland’s vibrant Gaelic community.
