That the Parliament congratulates professors Konstantinos Kontis and Douglas Paul of the University of Glasgow on being made Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering; recognises what it sees as their outstanding and pioneering contributions to the fields of aerospace engineering, quantum technology, and sensor innovation, which have advanced knowledge, improved industrial processes, and inspired the next generation of engineers; acknowledges the international impact of their research, including breakthroughs in high-speed flows, MEMS gravimetry, and photodetector technologies, and the ways in which their work has influenced both academic and industrial practices globally; further acknowledges their leadership in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, mentoring students and strengthening partnerships between academia, industry and government, and understands that their election to this prestigious Fellowship reflects not only their individual achievements but also the collaborative and innovative environment cultivated at the University of Glasgow, highlighting Scotland’s continuing reputation for excellence in engineering and scientific innovation, to engineer better lives through sustainable, resilient and cutting-edge technologies that address global challenges such as climate change, net zero energy solutions and advanced industrial systems.
