  • Submitted by: Ariane Burgess, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 23 September 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-19010

That the Parliament notes the formal handover of New Craigs Hospital in Inverness to NHS Highland, following the conclusion of its 25-year private finance initiative (PFI) contract with Robertson Capital Projects, Robertson Facilities Management and Dalmore Investments; acknowledges that New Craigs Hospital was purpose-built in 2000 to provide in-patient care for people living with mental illness and those living with learning disabilities in the Highland area and has since developed into a centre for a wide range of mental health and community-based services; welcomes the transfer of full operational control of the hospital to NHS Highland and the continuation of vital services without disruption; expresses concern over the long-term financial costs and limitations associated with PFI contracts, which have placed significant burdens on public finances and restricted public sector flexibility; supports calls for greater public investment in infrastructure that prioritises long-term value and democratic accountability, and commends NHS Highland and its staff for their commitment to delivering high-quality care and integrated services at New Craigs Hospital.
