Celebrating the Success of Nairn Museum in Gaining Vital Funding

  • Submitted by: Emma Roddick, Highlands and Islands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 11 September 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18836

That the Parliament notes and celebrates the recent success of the team at the Nairn Museum in gaining funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Communities and Collections Fund; acknowledges that this funding will aid the museum in utilising its existing collection to analyse how emigration and immigration have shaped the Highland costal identity and the Highlander's influence in the world; understands that, following this funding gain, the museum will recruit an outreach coordinator for two years to lead community engagement, workshops and pop-up events; celebrates that with this new funding, the museum will also collaborate with the Syrian scholar, Dr Nour Halabi, from the University of Aberdeen to launch a podcast discussing the connections between historical Highland migration and the modern day global movement, and wishes the team at the museum the best in all its future endeavours and important work.
