That the Parliament recognises the sixth Observance of the UN International Day to Protect Education from Attack, on 9 September 2025; notes that this year’s theme is on challenging narratives and reshaping action, focusing on the global problem of deliberate attacks on education and a call for the protection of education; acknowledges that the day of observance emphasises the importance of education as a fundamental right and a catalyst to ensure social cohesion and more sustainable and peaceful societies; understands that the number of attacks on schools has increased and that 2024 was the worst year since records began for children living in conflict zones who were killed, starved, injured and denied their fundamental human rights, including education; further understands with concern that attacks on education continue to increase in Sudan, Ukraine, Myanmar, Colombia and Gaza; expresses grave concern at what it sees as the clear scholasticide taking place in Gaza, where Israel has reportedly damaged or destroyed virtually every single school and university; believes that this is further evidence of war crimes being committed by the Israeli regime in Gaza, and recognises the importance of this day of Observance to call for an end of deliberate attacks on education systems, libraries and universities, which in turn obliterate and erase intellectual, cultural and social life in these nations.
