95th Anniversary of the Evacuation of St Kilda

  • Submitted by: Alasdair Allan, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 01 September 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18640

That the Parliament notes the 95th anniversary of the evacuation of St Kilda, which took place on 29 August 1930 and saw the final 36 inhabitants of the Hebridean island evacuated to the Scottish mainland; sends its thanks to the National Trust for Scotland for its continued care of the island; notes that St Kilda remains a popular tourist destination, and believes that the story of the evacuation serves as an important reminder to continue supporting existing rural island communities across Scotland.
