  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 26 August 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18617

That the Parliament celebrates the 10th anniversary of the re-opening of the Borders Railway; congratulates all those involved in the successful campaign to secure the re-opening of the line from Edinburgh to Tweedbank in September 2015; recognises reports that the line has enjoyed higher than expected passenger numbers, having risen by more than 30% at some stops along the line in 2023-24, reflecting its popularity; believes that the Borders Railway has been instrumental in generating inward investment for communities along the railway corridor, resulting in positive social and economic change, including a welcome boost to tourism; notes that there are a number of celebratory events planned to mark the 10th anniversary of the Borders Railway in September 2025; welcomes the joint funding agreed by the Scottish and UK governments to enable a feasibility study on the extension of the line from Tweedbank to Carlisle via Hawick to proceed, and hopes to see continued positive progress on the campaign for extending the line.
