  • Submitted by: Clare Haughey, Rutherglen, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 31 July 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18427

That the Parliament congratulates leaders Sandy Hutchison and Ally Bower, from the 138th Glasgow (Cambuslang Parish) Scout Group, on both being awarded the Silver Acorn; notes that what it sees as this prestigious accolade in the Scout Association recognises exceptionally distinguished service over the course of at least 20 years; understands that Sandy has helped facilitate the group’s attendance at six international and countless domestic camps over the past 30 years, as well as spearheading fundraising activities, while Ally has been part of the leadership team at four international camps over the past 25 years, and numerous summer and winter camps, and has been key to providing camping opportunities every month for the Scouts and Explorer Scouts; further understands that the awards were presented at a recent summer camp on the banks of Loch Lomond, and that they were the first to be presented to the group’s leaders in over 25 years, and commends the commitment and dedication both Sandy and Ally have shown to enabling young Scouts to participate in enriching and valuable experiences.
