That the Parliament congratulates Professor Alex McMahon, from Wishaw, on being appointed a CBE at the Palace of Holyrood House in recognition of his outstanding services to nursing in Scotland; acknowledges Professor McMahon’s distinguished career, which began in NHS Lanarkshire and included roles in both the private sector and Scottish Government, culminating in his appointment as the Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland; recognises his significant leadership as Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions at NHS Lothian and as Chair of the Scottish Executive Nurse Directors group; commends his continued contribution to the nursing profession in retirement, including chairing a review of mental health nursing in Scotland and a UK-wide review of student nurses’ and midwives’ practice learning for the Nursing and Midwifery Council; notes that Professor McMahon is a registered mental health and general nurse and holds honorary professorships at the University of Stirling and Queen Margaret University, and wishes Alex a happy and long retirement.
