Renfrewshire Women and Children First Celebrates Quarter Century of Service

  • Submitted by: Paul O'Kane, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 10 July 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18265

That the Parliament congratulates Renfrewshire’s Women and Children First on 25 years of service to the wider community; understands that Women and Children First has been a voice of compassion and support for members of the Renfrewshire community who have experienced different forms of sexual and domestic abuse, as well as other forms of gender-based violence, since 2000; further understands that, since its launch, the service has helped thousands of victims throughout Renfrewshire, while also being a valuable part of initiatives such as the annual Reclaim the Night march and the Young and Equally safe programme; commends the staff who work for the service, due to their continued commitment and dedication in helping those who have been subjected to horrific acts of abuse; believes that the job can be extremely testing, due to what is heard and seen by those who are helping victims; understands, however, that the staff at Women and Children First appreciate the importance of seeing the transformation of victims who they have helped, and believes that they deserve commendation for all the help and support that they have given over the last quarter century.
