That the Parliament wishes all Canadians a very happy Canada Day 2025; notes that national Canada Day celebrates the anniversary of the Canadian Confederation, which took place on 1 July 1867, when the British North America Act 1867 came into effect to create Canada; understands that the annual holiday marks a national celebration of Canadian identity and pride in its history, culture and achievements, with festivities taking place across the nation; notes that around four million Canadians claim Scottish descent and that Canada enjoys strong social, cultural and economic links with Scotland; further notes that the province of Nova Scotia was named after Scotland in 1621 when King James VI of Scotland granted a charter to Sir William Alexander to establish a colony in the region, and looks forward to the day when Scotland becomes independent and can enjoy its own national Scotland Day.
