That the Parliament congratulates Monty Cowen on his appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in His Majesty The King's Birthday Honours List 2025, for services to the Jewish community and the wider local community in the Giffnock area of Eastwood; understands that Monty's community work started in 1960 when he joined the Giffnock shul council; recognises that amongst Monty's range of accomplishments over the decades was his key role in facilitating the shul's relocation to a larger building, now formally known as the Giffnock Newton Mearns Synagogue following a merger in recent years, and arranging fundraising events; acknowledges that Monty's voluntary roles include holding the position of honorary president of the Glasgow Hebrew Burial Society, a 25-year period of service on the executive committee of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, ongoing involvement as the area brigade commander of the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (AJEX), where he runs the local Armistice Day parades, and that, through his active involvement with the Kashrut Commission, he makes sure that there is supervision of Kosher food suppliers and caterers for Glasgow and the west of Scotland; notes that, alongside his work with the Jewish community, Monty has also volunteered to support the wider local community in Giffnock, where he co-founded the community council and took on the position of vice-chair; recognises that, in his professional life, Monty established an agency business selling toys and that he also served with the RAF in Egypt during his national service, and believes that Monty's appointment as an MBE is a fitting recognition for his service to the local Jewish community and the wider community in Giffnock over the past 60 years.
