That the Parliament notes with sadness, the passing of James Prime, co-founder and keyboardist of Deacon Blue; understands that Jim joined the band, Deacon Blue, in 1985, which was formed in Glasgow by Ricky Ross and comprised James Prime on keyboards, Graeme Kelling on guitar, vocalist Lorraine McIntosh, bass guitarist Ewen Vernal and Dougie Vipond on drums; notes with interest Jim’s dedication to music education, having developed a School of Music and Recording Technology (SMART) with the University of the West of Scotland (UWS); understands that Jim joined UWS in 2001 and was instrumental in establishing the BA (Hons) Commercial Music degree, helping it grow into one of the University’s most successful and respected programmes, bringing a rare blend of academic insight and real-world industry experience to his teaching, sharing his knowledge across performance, theory, and the business of music in a way that deeply enriched the student experience; thanks Jim for his work in developing Scotland’s future musicians, and sends deepest condolences to Jim’s family, friends and colleagues.
