  • Motion reference: S6M-18111

That the Parliament congratulates Wishaw Academy Primary School on achieving the prestigious UNICEF Gold Rights Respecting Schools Award; recognises that this accolade is the highest of its kind and reflects the school’s outstanding and sustained commitment to embedding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) across all aspects of school life; commends the staff for their leadership, dedication and creativity in fostering a positive, inclusive, and rights-respecting learning environment; applauds the pupils for their enthusiasm, awareness, and active participation in promoting children's rights, both within the school and in the wider community; notes that pupils at Wishaw Academy play a central role in decision-making and in championing fairness, equality and respect throughout the school; acknowledges the wider school community, including parents and carers, for their support in creating a culture where every child feels valued and heard; believes that the decision by the Parliament in 2021 to incorporate the UNCRC into Scots law demonstrates a commitment to uphold children’s rights, and welcomes the Scottish Government’s funding support for UNICEF UK to offer the Rights Respecting Schools Award to all state schools in Scotland, enabling more schools like Wishaw Academy to place children's rights at the heart of their values and learning.
