Highest Ever Duke of Edinburgh Award Uptake

  • Submitted by: Liz Smith, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 23 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18064

That the Parliament welcomes the reportedly highest ever uptake of the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award in the charity’s 68-year history; understands that over 342,000 teenagers started either a bronze, silver or gold DofE Award in 2024, which all include an overnight outdoor expedition and sections on volunteering, sport and skills; praises the charity for its work in teaching key life skills, such as confidence, independence and resilience, and in many cases being a young person’s first introduction to camping and outdoor experiences, and supports what it sees as the transformative effect that the fully-inclusive award can have on participants from all different backgrounds.
