That the Parliament congratulates Neil McMullen, a lecturer at the Coatbridge campus of New College Lanarkshire, on being named a Silver winner in the Further Education Lecturer of the Year category at the 2025 Pearson National Teaching Awards; notes that these awards are among the most prestigious and largest education awards in the UK, recognising outstanding contributions across all sectors; further notes that Neil was selected as one of six Silver winners from thousands of entries, following a rigorous judging process, including a visit from previous winners; understands that Neil is the first lecturer from a Scottish college to reach this stage in the 10 years that the category has run; acknowledges that he now progresses to consideration for a Gold Award, with the final results to be announced on The One Show and at a ceremony in London in November; recognises Neil’s remarkable career, having joined the then Coatbridge College in 1985 as an 18-year-old student in its first hairdressing class, before going on to teach and mentor thousands of students over the past four decades; commends what it sees as his innovative, community-based teaching, including work with cancer survivors and victims of domestic violence, celebrates his status as an inspiring educator, valued colleague, and Lanarkshire legend, and offers its best wishes for continued success.
