  • Submitted by: Michelle Thomson, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 12 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17941

That the Parliament welcomes the £2.2 million of funding from Scottish Enterprise towards Syngenta’s £14.7 million expansion project at its Grangemouth site; understands that Syngenta plays an important role within Grangemouth’s chemical cluster, specialising in crop protections and seed breeding for the agricultural sector, with this expansion set to deliver a dedicated manufacturing facility for its product range to help farmers safeguard high-value seeds against pests, environmental stresses and disease; notes that sustainability is the core ethos of Syngenta’s goals, with it not only assisting farmers with the challenges of food insecurity and global warming, but with it also being founded on the belief that agriculture can feed people while providing a climate solution; considers that this investment in Grangemouth’s chemical cluster encourages innovative companies to select the industrial area for access to a highly skilled workforce and well established infrastructure provision; congratulates Syngenta on securing this funding from Scottish Enterprise; thanks everyone in the team for the work that they are undertaking to support agriculture while broadening the critical chemical cluster in Grangemouth, and wishes them the best of luck with the expansion.
