  • Submitted by: Karen Adam, Banffshire and Buchan Coast, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 06 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17841

That the Parliament recognises the vital work of North East Sensory Services (NESS), a long-established charity providing specialist support to more than 6,250 people with serious sight and/or hearing loss across the north east of Scotland, including over 1,130 in Moray alone; commends NESS for its sector-leading approach to delivering joint sensory services, which are of particular benefit to older people experiencing age-related dual sensory loss; praises the charity’s flexible, person-centred ethos, which ensures that no one is turned away, and that services are tailored to individuals’ evolving needs; welcomes the impact of services delivered in Moray, including social inclusion groups for older people, the Young People’s Sensory Service, and the ICT for All programme, all of which, it believes, increase independence, reduce isolation and improve wellbeing; notes that, in a single year, 87% of people supported by NESS reported reduced negative impacts of their sensory loss, and more than half reported being less socially isolated and more engaged in their community, and expresses deep appreciation for the organisation’s dedicated volunteers, whose 11,000+ hours of service are a testament to their compassion and community spirit.
