Belmont House Installs Community Defibrillator

  • Submitted by: Jackson Carlaw, Eastwood, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 05 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17815

That the Parliament commends Belmont House School in Newton Mearns for installing a defibrillator that is accessible to the wider local community; understands that the charitable organisation, St John Scotland, provided Belmont House with the defibrillator and that the school raised part of the funding for the device alongside its associated cabinet through the parent teacher association; further understands that the school will fund the continuing maintenance costs and the general upkeep of the defibrillator; notes that the device has been placed in an easily accessible and visible location and that it is available for around-the-clock use should an individual experience a cardiac arrest; understands that the defibrillator has been registered on a national database to allow 999 call operators to relay an access code to unlock the equipment in an emergency situation, and welcomes the efforts of the school to put in place this potentially lifesaving device for the local community.
