Congratulating Coatbridge Schoolgirl Grace McLuckie on her Outstanding Literary Achievement

  • Submitted by: Fulton MacGregor, Coatbridge and Chryston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 03 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17749

That the Parliament congratulates 13-year-old Grace McLuckie from Coatbridge on the remarkable success of her debut book, Tom and the Monster Hospice, which, it understands, has soared to the top of Amazon’s best sellers list in the category of children’s books on death and dying; acknowledges what it sees as Grace’s exceptional talent as a young autistic writer who, inspired by the sudden loss of her uncle, courageously addressed a sensitive and often overlooked subject, how it feels to be the person who is dying, through thoughtful and moving rhyming verse; notes that Grace’s book, which was published on 7 May 2025, rose rapidly in the charts; commends her for providing a fresh and compassionate perspective on death that it believes is already making a meaningful difference for children and families across Scotland; recognises Grace’s thoughtful decision to donate copies of her book to children’s hospices in Scotland, further amplifying its positive impact; celebrates the strong support that she receives from her mother, Erin, her school, and her close friends, and wishes Grace every success in her future writing, including her admirable aspiration to become an author at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
