25 Years of MECOPP Supporting Black and Minority Ethnic Unpaid Carers

  • Submitted by: Emma Roddick, Highlands and Islands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 04 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17697

That the Parliament celebrates 25 years of the Minority Ethnic Carers of People Project (MECOPP), supporting black and minority ethnic (BME) unpaid carers across Scotland; notes the publication of MECOPP’s report, Where are we now? Health and Wellbeing Experiences and Supports for Black and Minority Ethnic Unpaid Carers across Scotland; understands that this report provides evidence of the negative impacts experienced by unpaid carers from BME backgrounds on health, finances and access to support services, and believes that BME unpaid carers make an essential contribution to Scotland’s health and social care system, and that it is imperative that support be provided to tackle the inequalities that they face.
