That the Parliament commemorates the life of José 'Pepe' Mujica following the former Uruguayan President’s passing at the age of 89; recognises Pepe’s lifelong commitment to the causes of peace, democracy and human dignity; notes the example that it believes he set for his fellow world leaders by eschewing the comforts of high office; applauds that, during Pepe’s presidency, Uruguay adopted what it sees as progressive social reforms, including the legalisation of abortion and same-sex marriage; commends President Mujica’s efforts to empower Uruguayan trade unions and significantly boost the national minimum wage; remembers Pepe’s stubborn hope in the face of adversity, and sends its condolences to the grieving people of Uruguay.
