  • Submitted by: Tess White, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 16 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17191

That the Parliament congratulates Stonehaven Outdoor Pool on the announcement that it is to host the International Ice Swimming Association (IISA) GB Championships, which are due to take place in December 2025; understands that Stonehaven Outdoor Pool was recently used by swimmers from the Silver City Blue masters swim club as they trained to compete at the World Ice Swimming Championships in the Italian Alps; notes that the International Ice Swimming Association was formed in 2009 with a vision to make ice swimming, in water with a temperature of 5.0C / 41.0F or lower, a new sport; recognises that IISA now holds ice swims in 46 countries, and has membership in 73 countries around the world; believes that ice swimming is an extreme sport with significant benefits to health and mental wellbeing, and wishes Stonehaven Outdoor Pool well as it not only prepares for its summer season but also looks ahead to the GB Championships in December.
