Welcoming Argyll and Bute's Rural Growth Deal

  • Submitted by: Tim Eagle, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 14 March 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16780

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Argyll and Bute Rural Growth Deal, which, it understands, is worth £70 million, has been signed-off by the UK and Scottish governments; recognises that the Rural Growth Deal policy was instigated by the former UK Conservative administration, and that Argyll and Bute Council's bid was originally confirmed in 2021; understands that the funding will help deliver at least 300 additional jobs, training opportunities for more than 6,000 people, support for business growth, new housing and worker accommodation and more than 70,000 additional visitors to the area every year; notes that a range of projects will receive funding from the Rural Growth Deal, including £9 million for the refurbishment of Rothesay Pavilion, £2 million for a new water sports hub on Campbeltown Loch and up to £4 million of investment in new business park infrastructure at Oban Airport to allow it to become a leading research and development centre for UAV technologies, and welcomes what it sees as a transformational investment in communities across Argyll and Bute.
