  • Motion reference: S6M-12752

That the Scottish Parliament commends Currys Uddingston employee and first aid volunteer, Allan Walker, on being awarded Community First Aid Champion at the prestigious Scottish First Aid Awards Ceremony, which was held on 29 March 2024; notes that the annual event, organised by St Andrew's First Aid (SAFA), saw Allan celebrated for his ongoing efforts in raising awareness about the importance of first aid, as well as his achievement in fundraising over £3,700 through training 74 members of the public how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator; further notes that this contribution provided Currys Uddingston with a public-access defibrillator and funded two of SAFA’s vital Ready for Life first aid programmes; understands that SAFA’s Ready for Life programme consists of a two-day course, which provides participants with qualifications and life skills in emergency first aid at work (SCQF Level 6) and first aid for mental health awareness (SCQF Level 4), and has been successfully piloted in over 15 local authorities; acknowledges that it is SAFA’s ambition to see the national roll-out of this programme across schools in Scotland in order to ensure that young people are equipped with life-saving skills from an early age, and applauds the hard work and dedication of all those involved in promoting first aid knowledge and practice in central Scotland, including SAFA’s East Kilbride company, which was nominated in the Corps Company of the Year category at the awards ceremony.
