That the Parliament extends its warmest wishes to Sikhs in Scotland, the UK, and across the globe on Vaisakhi 2024, the largest festival in the Sikh calendar, to be celebrated on 13 April 2024; recognises the vibrant festivities that are set to take place in Gurdwaras across Scotland, which will be accompanied by flag-raising ceremonies; appreciates the dedication of all those involved in the Nagar Kirtan procession, which took place on 7 April 2024 in Glasgow; acknowledges what it regards as the profound contributions of Sikhi and that of the Khalsa order, created by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699; welcomes the teachings and the sacred tradition of langar, which refers to community kitchen, that are provided by Gurdwaras year-round and are supported by dedicated volunteers who serve hot meals to countless individuals irrespective of background, and understands that Vaisakhi is a time to recognise the core values at the heart of Sikhism, which are equality, community, generosity, honesty, and seva, which means selfless service to others, and to create positive harmony and rejoicing in the spirit of unity and devotion.
