Steel Town Cricketers

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 21 November 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-11308

That the Parliament congratulates one of Motherwell's oldest institutions, the Steel Town Cricketers, on celebrating its 150th anniversary; understands that the cricket club has launched a book to celebrate, telling the history of the club and stories of some of the remarkable characters that have played; further understands that the book was written by Steve Young and Graham Robertson, whose playing careers began over 50 years ago and that Steve continues to serve the club as honorary president; understands that, in 1870, six crickets clubs were listed as playing in Motherwell at Low Motherwell farm, and that cricket matches predate the first noted game of football in the town; thanks Steve and Graham for their dedication to publishing the book, and wishes the cricketers all the best with the future of the club.
