  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 18 October 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10872

That the Parliament congratulates Ravenscraig Community Action Group on its successful campaign to protect the Ravenscraig masterplan by, it understands, facing down proposals for a rail freight terminal, distribution centre and ancillary development that would have, it believes, resulted in the loss of ancient woodland and introduced unacceptable levels of noise in a growing residential community; understands that, on 17 October 2023, the Scottish Government rejected a planning appeal by the Russell Group, following North Lanarkshire Council refusing the planning application in December 2022; acknowledges that Ravenscraig Community Action Group has developed the Ravenscraig Promise, in recognition of the importance of delivering the Ravenscraig masterplan, which includes new and affordable homes, low-carbon, multi-modal transport and opportunities for community organisations and small to medium enterprises; notes that the Ravenscraig Promise has strong cross-party support, and that a well-attended parliamentary event for Ravenscraig Community Action Group was attended by MSPs earlier in 2023; congratulates everyone involved in Ravenscraig Community Action Group, and the individuals who made representations to both the planning application and the appeal, on their role in what it sees as a positive, constructive and ambitious campaign for the community, and sends its best wishes to the Ravenscraig Community Action Group as it advocates for the progression of the Ravenscraig Promise.
