Rosebank Oilfield

  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 29 September 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10646

That the Parliament condemns the approval of the Rosebank oilfield; understands that the approval gives the go-ahead to Equinor to develop the largest oilfield in UK waters during a climate and nature emergency; further understands that Rosebank will produce the same emissions that the 28 lowest income countries generate in a single year; believes that what it sees as this climate-wrecking decision will not improve energy security because Rosebank oil will mostly be exported and then sold back to the UK; is appalled that the developers, including Equinor, will reportedly benefit from an estimated £3.75 billion of taxpayers’ money during a cost of living crisis despite the scheme doing nothing, it believes, to bring down bills or accelerate a just transition for workers and communities; pays tribute to all campaigners who continue to oppose what it sees as this act of ecocide, and calls on the regulator to reverse its decision.
