Honouring the Life and Legacy of Jackie Stuart of Peterhead Prison Museum

That the Parliament deeply mourns the passing of Mr Jackie Stuart, a distinguished figure renowned for his immense contributions to the founding and ongoing success of the Peterhead Prison Museum; understands that Mr Stuart was a man of unwavering dedication, passion, and bravery, and was thrust into public life after being taken hostage in the 1987 HMP Peterhead riots, when the harrowing TV pictures of Jackie held hostage on the prison roof were seen across the world; recognises his pivotal role in the establishment and advancement of the Peterhead Prison Museum, which, it considers, left an indelible mark on Scotland's cultural heritage; believes that his tireless commitment to preserving the historical significance of Peterhead Prison and its transformation into a museum enriched the lives of countless individuals and furthered people's understanding of Scotland's rich history; acknowledges with gratitude what it sees as the profound impact of Mr Stuart’s work in bridging the past and the present, ensuring that future generations may learn from the legacy of Peterhead Prison; considers that his dedication to preserving the stories and experiences of those who lived and worked within its walls is a testament to his enduring commitment to the community; extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mr Stuart, and believes that the life that he lived and the legacy that he leaves behind will continue to inspire generations to come.
