That the Parliament congratulates the organisers of the 2023 Orkney Folk Festival, now in its 40th year, which took place from 25 to 28 May 2023; notes that over 8,000 concert tickets were sold; understands that this is more than 10% higher than the festival’s last highest sales in 2022; believes that the festival has contributed enormously to the outward promotion of the Orcadian folk idiom through projects such as The Gathering; commends the festival organisers for what it sees as their commitment to accessibility and being a family-friendly festival; understands that this event is organised by a small group of volunteers who work year-round to put the festival on each May, and wishes the Orkney Folk Festival well for another successful event in May 2024.
