  • Submitted by: Paul O'Kane, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 01 June 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-09197

That the Parliament recognises that the Greenock Arts Guild is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Beacon Arts Centre; recognises that the Greenock Arts Guild was founded in 1946 as a hub for touring shows, a base for amateur theatre groups and venue for workshops in music, art and drama; notes that, from 1946 to 2013, the guild used Greenock Arts Guild Theatre before it was replaced by the very modern and innovative Beacon Arts Centre; understands that the Beacon Arts Centre officially turned 10 years old in January 2023 and that the guild has hosted a number of events to recognise the anniversary throughout the year; further understands that the Beacon has one of the largest main stages in Scotland, along with three large rehearsal rooms, which can be extended to provide a function suite for up to 170 guests; celebrates what it sees as the cultural contribution that the opening of the Beacon Arts Centre has made to Greenock and the wider communities in Inverclyde, ensuring that some of the best theatre, music and variety performances come to the area and perform; celebrates the Guild’s focus on having a positive influence on the wider Inverclyde community, creating community outreach projects that engage with diverse groups of people and encouraging participation of those groups within the arts; wishes it the very best in continuing to be a great entertainment institution, and supports it in its mission to make the arts accessible to all.
