  • Motion reference: S6M-08843

That the Parliament notes the 10th anniversary of the Margaret Kerr Unit at Borders General Hospital; further notes that the purpose-built specialist palliative care unit was opened in 2013 and is named after the West Linton nurse whose legacy began the fundraising that brought the project to fruition; understands that, since opening its doors, the Margaret Kerr Unit has supported hundreds of patients and their families in dealing with cancer and other progressive conditions; notes that three days of events will be held to honour 10 years since the unit’s official opening, including a service of thanksgiving and remembrance, and two lasting impressions tile and memory pebble workshops; recognises what it sees as the value of the Margaret Kerr Unit to the Borders community and the individuals and families who have received care and support there; pays credit to all the staff who have worked tirelessly to provide such valuable support to those who have passed through the unit’s doors over the past 10 years, and notes that the Book of Remembrance will be available throughout May 2023 to give people the opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of those cared for there.
