That the Parliament wishes Mavis Paterson, a grandmother from Dumfries and Galloway, every success as she sets out on her latest mammoth fundraising challenge to cycle all around Scotland, a distance of some 1,030 miles; recognises that she is undertaking the challenge that began on 29 April 2023, when she set off from the Mull of Galloway to raise money again for Macmillan Cancer Support; understands that she began supporting the charity after her mother and sister sadly died from the disease and was greatly impressed by the care that her sister received, which inspired her to raise money for Macmillan; notes that Mavis previously entered the Guinness World Records as the oldest woman ever to cycle from Lands End to John o’Groats in 2019, when she raised over £75,000, which ultimately saw her being named Pride of Britain's Fundraiser of the Year; notes that, during her remarkable fundraising challenge, Mavis will celebrate her 85th birthday on the month-long epic road journey that has attracted enormous interest on social media, thanks to daily updates, and hopes that the weather conditions remain kind and eventually allow her to return home safely.
