Stow Station House Shortlisted for the 2023 My Place Awards

  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 04 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08778

That the Parliament congratulates Stow Station House on being shortlisted for the 2023 My Place Awards; understands that the My Place Awards celebrate community-led built environment projects in Scotland that have transformed their locality; notes that Stow Station House is a converted railway station dwelling house, which was saved from demolition and, after an award-winning conversion and refurbishment project, has been reborn as a fully accessible bar/kitchen, with multi-purpose function room and separate cycle hub; understands that the project was informed by the views of the local community and that what has been delivered directly relates to the result of an options appraisal where a community consultation outlined the preferred mix of spaces and uses; pays credit to the Stow Community Trust volunteer members whose determination and dedication resulted in the project, which was led by Aitken Turnbull Architects, being delivered on budget, despite delays as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and hopes that Stow Station House will continue to be enjoyed by the community long into the future.
